Welcome to Digital-Photo-Tutor.com
Hello! Thanks for dropping in to learn more about who's behind Digital-Photo-Tutor.
My name is Laura, and as the author and designer of Digital-Photo-Tutor, and someone who has had an interest in digital photos since the first digital cameras were on the market (way back in the mid 1990's), I was motivated to build a site dedicated to all aspects of the digital photos themselves.
When I first started looking for information on digital photos, I found many digital photography sites, but the sites didn't offer much about the details of the digital photos like file sizes, low vs high # of pixels in a photo, memory card sizes vs # of pictures per card, or really anything about storing the digital images.
The first digital camera I used was part of my work at a university teaching professors about digital images. The digital images were mostly scanned pictures using a flatbed scanner, but the Learning Technology Dept. at the time purchased its first digital camera, and my course expanded to include digital photo theory. That camera was a Sony Mavica that stored the digital images on a 3.5 inch diskette and it seemed like the batteries needed recharging about every 10 pictures. Oh, and the camera was a 180px ... pixel, not Megapixel like today's 5Mpx and much higher. For a techie person, to be able to download pictures right away to a computer though ... this was fantastic, and I played lots.
Finally in 2002 I bought my own digital camera. My 4 megapixel Olympus C-750 10x Ultrazoom has served me well in my exploration of all things related to digital photos. Now after 7 years I figured it was time to upgrade and maybe step into amateur photography. So I've just purchased a Canon EOS 30D Digital SLR and it's now time to learn which features are really crucial, and also learn the art of photography. I'm excited. Still though, I know I'll be using both my Olympus and the Canon for learning and playing and have lots of material to keep the website building for years.
Goals for the Web Site
My goal for Digital-Photo-Tutor.com is to provide my guests with a place to visit to find quality information, tips, and articles related mainly to digital photos themselves, with supplementary articles and information on digital scrapbooking and cameras.
Even though I've been working with digital photos as a hobby for many, many years, there is always more to learn as the technology and tools change. So, I'll always be asking questions of others who are expert in the field and will share their expertise with you too.
As I learn more and find new tips and ideas on the many things you can do with digital photos,I will be sharing them with you on this site. My main purpose is to help others spend less time searching the Internet and provide you, the visitor, with a place to find what you are looking for when you think "digital photos".
Putting together the Web Site
With my background in software support and early website development, I thought I knew it all when it came to creating an informational web site about my digital photo hobby.
Was I wrong! Creating webpages for a corporate website is very different from creating a web presence for my hobby or even a small business.
I of course started the hard way,, first thinking I could do all the coding for the pages, find a place to put the pages, and my site would be instantly on the internet for everyone to see. Needless to say, that's not how it works. So ... I searched and researched and I found that informational sites that I really liked had one common theme ... they were informative, easy to read, and had been created using Site Build It.
What is it? A web development product called SBI (Site Build It) that is an easy-to-use website development package & hosting service that helps people give their hobby passions or small business ideas a web presence and earns them a little cash.
It's working for me. Now I don't spend all my time on web coding. Instead, I spend it writing articles, playing with my digital photos, and learning. To keep this short, I've put another page together if you want to learn more about creating your own web site so you too can share your hobby, or give your small business a web presence.
