Some Tips for Extending the Life of your Digital Camera Battery

Your batteries are the life of your digital camera and without them, there's nothing you can do. Sometimes a digital camera batter runs out at the worst possible time, when you need it the most. Therefore it is always good to learn a few strategies to make the camera's batteries last longer.

LCD Display is a Battery Hog

Try to avoid using your digital camera's LCD display - It is the main culprit responsible for eating up the digital camera battery power. Use your camera's viewfinder as much as possible and only use the LCD in the digital camera to display and preview all your images once you're done and there are no more digital photos to take. Or better yet, download the digital images to your computer and preview them there. You'll have a bigger screen to look at, and it's easy to determine which digital photos to delete or to keep when you can see the detail.

Memory Cards are too!

Don't access the digital camera memory card - Erasing bad digital photos immediately from your memory card to free up space consumes a lot of the digital camera's battery power. Just keep on taking your photos and sort them out later once you have an ample power supply at home or back at your hotel room. Again, it makes sense to just copy them to your computer, if available.

Use All your Battery Juice & Have Spares

Run your digital camera batteries all the way down - Batteries will continue to lose their charge even when the camera is off, so always check your digital camera before you take it out to use. Always try to run your batteries down before you recharge, even if you have not used the digital camera much. That's why it's a good idea to have a second set of batteries for your digital camera. When one set is recharging, you will have fresh batteries to continue using your camera.

If your camera uses common size batteries, such as AA or AAA, then always have a fresh package available in your camera bag to use when your digital camera battery runs out at an inopportune photo moment. Don't be caught without digital camera battery power. Learn which other features on your camera use the most battery power, ie. a flash, and use them sparingly, or not at all if you camera is giving a low battery signal.

And the most important tip: Make sure your digital camera battery is charged and ready for that next great digital shot ... you never know when the perfect shot will present itself.
